Roy does his own version of the now classic 'Slow Roll It' (a hit for The Love Doctor & Sheba Potts-Wright). He gives the warning: 'Watch out for the one that calls you a brother/What he really means is you're a mutha!'. *** 1/2 Another Southern Soul treasure features 10 new Roy C gems beginning with the swaying sing-a-long soul of the title track, where he says you can't even trust the preacher in your church when it comes to cheating! He revisits this theme later with the funky 'Everybody Is Cheating' featuring a phat bassline and greasy organ fills. Why haven't this two R & B titans hooked up? Still the best is the lovely 'You Turned My World Around', which reminds me of Van Morrison. Other blue moods can be found on the excellent 'Somebody Took My Love Away' and 'I'm Hurting'. He meets a girl and offers her a drink and the chick says: 'You buying? Then I'll have three martinis!'. But Roy's still gonna blow off steam- he's 'Living For The Weekend' where he's 'going downtown to have myself a ball'. Next 'Everybody's Down On Me' continues the theme. He says 'I'm a nobody when I coulda been a somebody'. He could've been a contender- but he's lost everything, even his woman. A regal synth-horn intro leads into the soulful 'Out Of All The Things I Could've Been'. On the heartbreaking 'Going Back Home To My Mother' he tells of a failed marriage. He's working hard for his baby too- 7 days a week for her on the strolling title track. *** 1/2 Roy C is working hard for us soul lovers.
